The new techniques developed to create his 3-D printed facial prosthesis are already being implemented to help others.
Leading on from the regionals the next step to Seedcorn was submitting a 5 pager/executive summary document giving and overview to the All–Island Final judging panel on how the business had developed over the proceeding months.
D-day arrived on the Wednesday 25th of November. The Final would be held in Clontarf Castle Hotel Dublin. Tempting faith I decided it would be a great idea to visit a potential customer outside of Ireland…… Only kidding! I was up till 3 o clock in the morning finishing the next revision of the product. The pitch went well, Q&A was tough. I came out feeling I had given it my best shot but absolutely exhausted, the previous few weeks and months had been a continuous grind. Job done, I intended on taking Thursday and Friday off regardless of the results to recharge the batteries (anyone who knows my work ethic would be surprised).
During the summer of 2014 I first heard of InterTradeIreland Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competition. At the time I was working as a design engineer, while seeking opportunities to acquire funding to commercialise my design. I came across Seedcorn through an online search, after a brief call with Connor Sweeney he confirmed that I wasn’t eligible as I had not registered a company. Disappointed, I told myself I will incorporate a company and win that competition.
Ocean Survivor is an innovative start up based in Limerick, Ireland. We are developing a product that actively donates heat to your core in a cold water environment, mitigating the effects of Hypothermia and promoting comfort and mental well-being in a survival situation. Developing such an innovative product costs money, we are currently seeking investment. As the founder and Managing Director of Ocean Survivor I made the decision to enter the InterTradeIreland Seedcorn Competition. On the 26th of November 2015, Ocean Survivor was announced overall winner of 13th consecutive All-Island Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competition winning the grand prize of €100,000.
Being a founder and managing director of Ocean Survivor I have climbed a steep learning curve to arrive at my current position. I intend to share some of my past experiences as a student, intern, design engineer and founder and hopefully inspire you to follow your dreams and avoid some of the pitfalls.
